First, there was jerk chicken. Then came beef jerky. Now there’s jerking–a hip hop dance, most simply put, as a backwards Running Man. The last I heard, crumping was hot, but I guess I was too busy downloading Lionel Richie and Poison’s Greatest Hits onto my iPod that I missed a beat. Last weekend, The NY Times brought me up to speed with an article about the latest cross-cultural dance and trendsetting sartorial movement. (Yes, even The Times is more “wit it” than moi.)

Just as breakdancing was introduced to the masses in front of the New York Public Library in midtown Manhattan almost 30 years ago, jerking recently emerged from the streets of Los Angeles–where I envision it starting out in a parking lot of an El Pollo Loco. I kid, I kid.

So these prepubescent cats think they can dance? Time for a showdown. They might be jerking around, but I got the New Kids Dance–baam! How you like me now?!
