As I proceeded to order the gayest vanilla cone I could possibly muster without turning gay, I told The Big Gay Ice Cream Man that I tweeted about his truck last summer and also knew food writer Robert Sietsema from the Village Voice.

Grateful that Robert recently wrote a piece on the return of his rainbow-themed soft serve enterprise, The Big Gay Ice Cream Man cooed and lispfully told me he’d happily give the writer “a toe floss” and “pull the corns off his feet.”

Too bad Robert doesn’t have a foot fetish and isn’t gay. But that’s okay, I presume he likes gay ice cream.

Fashion Week ended with a fairytale happy ending, thanks in part to Isaac Mizrahi’s “Central Park Story Book” fall collection. So what’s it like getting a fifteen-minute peek into the mind of the fashion-forward fairy godfather? Think: the Upper East Side on ecstasy. Elevated bag ladies, fanciful fairies, haute game and wildlife, and samurai warrior princesses floated within a bling’d-out urbanosphere.

For Mizrahi, this year’s fall femme fatale is soft, relaxed, and feminine with a finesse of understated bad ass–the bad ass part being especially attributed to his “Society Samurai” chapter, which was inspired by the Met’s Japanese Armour Show.

In terms of “The Look,” the models drifted along the runway with natural muted faces and disheveled tresses pulled back in low ponytails.

Some of our fave accouterments include the fur-fringed hoodies, the kaleidoscopic leggings, the look-at-me! muppetfur coat (a.k.a. Fraggle Rock on acid), the ice-lizard blazer, the foxtail scarves, and the Cinderella glass slippers.

What’s a fairytale without a ‘lil bit of romance? Our hearts were in a whimsy during his “Parka Avenue” and “Vagrant Fairies” chapters, particularly when the leafy green cocktail and the sunburnt wanderlace one-piece pranced down the runway. There was also some serious bling action in the designer’s “Fish and Wildlife” chapter, in which we were happily blinded by the set of crocodile dresses that came in tangerine, pinkberry, and diamond.

For the red carpet look, Mizrahi did not disappoint. A number of his “Seven Winter Fairies,” who, by the by, had to weather the faux snow falling from the Bryant Park Tent Heavens, were draped in flowy evening gowns that had lots of poofy drama billowing out at their ends.

When the Story Book ended, we dreamily walked out of The Tent, wondering if the fairy godfather would be so merciful to grant us one humble, discounted request. Target, please?

First, there was jerk chicken. Then came beef jerky. Now there’s jerking–a hip hop dance, most simply put, as a backwards Running Man. The last I heard, crumping was hot, but I guess I was too busy downloading Lionel Richie and Poison’s Greatest Hits onto my iPod that I missed a beat. Last weekend, The NY Times brought me up to speed with an article about the latest cross-cultural dance and trendsetting sartorial movement. (Yes, even The Times is more “wit it” than moi.)

Just as breakdancing was introduced to the masses in front of the New York Public Library in midtown Manhattan almost 30 years ago, jerking recently emerged from the streets of Los Angeles–where I envision it starting out in a parking lot of an El Pollo Loco. I kid, I kid.

So these prepubescent cats think they can dance? Time for a showdown. They might be jerking around, but I got the New Kids Dance–baam! How you like me now?!

When I heard about RentTheRunway.com (RTR), I–in keeping with fashion guru Rachel Zoe‘s signature adverbial misuse–”literally” felt like diving into every corner mailbox. For all you who were analog shopping, Rent the Runway serves as a “Netflix” for glam garb by allowing you to borrow dresses at 10% of their retail price. You simply peruse the site, choose an A-list designer dress to be shipped to your address, and once you’re done wearing it, drop it off in the mail. (The gals at RTR even do the dry cleaning.)

In all seriousness, my initial thought was: “Ridiculosity.” The way I figured, frivolous services that allow us to become more antisocial and lazy as a society are just bad news. But, a few seconds later, I switched my cynical hat for my girly one and thought that maybe this new idea was actually, quite possibly, an aesthetically utilitarian one indeedy. After all, I was reminded of this yummy low-cut V-neck Bebe dress I bought eons ago that I managed to wear only twice and which now wistfully hangs at the back of my closet accruing dust–and my guilt. You know what I’m talking about; your closets all harbor the same story.

So, the verdict is still out, but for all you practical and budget-conscious ladies (and trannies) who need a lil somethin somethin for a fancy night out on the town, RentTheRunway.com might be a smart avenue to click to–plus, it’ll make you a trendsetter twice over. Literally.

With all this talk about the looming demise of the newspaper and print industry, it was refreshing to read about what one paper in northeast Pennsylvania is doing to stay ahead of the curve. Beatblogging.org reports that the Pocono Record has gone from the traditional way of reporting to assigning each staff reporter a virtual beat–thus, requiring every employee to publish online, while virtual beat managers are responsible for placing content on a variety of platforms (i.e. print, online, email, mobile, etc.). With virtual papers, breaking news is covered in real time–not on a print deadline. This doesn’t mean, however, that print is pushed to the way side. As the Pocono has shown, integration of both mediums are possible: Time sensitive news is allotted to the Web, while features and in-depth analysis items go to print.

Ultimately, Pocono believes the industry’s survival is contingent on providing the kind of content that readers want, rather than offering content solely based on its own agenda. For all the juicy tidbits, read the full article here.

As for me, I think the idea of integrating the two mediums as described above has huge potential. There’s also been talk of micro-payments/subscriptions from the major papers as another solution, but obviously in implementing this, there would have to be universal consensus.

I’m not a huge fan of letting readers’ demand be a major driving force that determines what’s on the front page. Call me an elitist, but I think there’s some validity in having “gatekeepers” in the industry telling you what’s newsworthy–especially in this cheap celeb-obsessed society.

It’s difficult for me to envision the print industry dying off completely. I just can’t imagine the vast majority of readers preferring to hold an austere electronic device over a malleable form of print. There’s something organic about having a newspaper or book at the palm of your hands; it gives avid readers that ritualistic opportunity of licking their fingers to turn a page, scribbling a few notes in their own handwriting or underlining a great quote. Owning a worn and torn print copy of something is kind of like owning the wrinkles on your face. It’s a badge of honor. (But never you mind that this blogger is all about erasing her wrinkles!)
